They sometimes sell for thousands of pounds but are they a good investment? In time to come when the rock star might be forgotten how could they hold their price?

I bid for one at auction, but there were strings attached.

it's a gamble, same as buying any memorabilia. I have George Michael's autograph on a Wham! 12" single. I'm pretty sure the value has gone up and down over the years ;o)
A bit like him!
oi.. leave George alone!
Dion't fret about it sara.
I believe Dweezil Zappa tried to sell one owned by his Father and previously by Jimmy Hendrix for around £300,000, I don't think it sold at all, so I don't think I'd invest in one.
that was a bit bass-ic, McMouse!
There's a pretty wide plectrum of choices sara.
yes, that strikes a chord..
a bet a pete townsend guitar would fetch a decent price ... most of them ended up in bits

I wish all these punsters would gliss ando something else :-)
My lower lip has now gone all of a tremolo sandy.
pete townsend don't go there.........haven't forgotten his misdemeanour yet.
You mean you won't get fooled again?
Well my generation wasn't Sipowicz.
Only buy property of a long established star, one who is already established as one of the all-time greats. Jimi Hendrix would do, with the added benefit that he isn't around to have any more guitars. The established best,in whatever field of collecting, is always going to hold its value better than anything else.

And above all, get well proven provenance, proof of origin. This is usually of a trail of ownership back to the star, supported by pictures of the instrument in use, diary entries, invoices, recollections in autobiographies and the like.
