I actually fell asleep when the blonde woman asked Freddo to look at his own reflection................did I miss the best bits?
you missed the bit where he turned into a caramel freddo and got carried off by a giant eagle to feed the young

I did expect an adult-ish version of Harry Potter (haven't watched them either, just snippets when the kids have had them on)

But it wasn't. What was the target audience for these films? kids, teenagers or just people who like wizards n stuff?
people who like wizards n stuff
The LOTR books were an attempt by Tolkien to give the English their mythology back - that and a metaphor for WW2.

While the films don't quite do those aims justice, understanding this can make all the difference when it comes to enjoying it!
"I did expect an adult-ish version of Harry Potter (haven't watched them either, just snippets when the kids have had them on)"

The last HPs were quite good actually, especially the "moping about in the wood in a tent" stuff. I enjoyed them more than I expected.

If there was a second best answer, it would be yours Ed.

But Fluffys........... 'people who like wizards n stuff'........seems bang on to me.

That ^ was for your first reply, not the liking of Harry Potter films.

Although "moping about in the wood in a tent" is nothing new to me, I doubt it would make great viewing.
it was a great bit of moping
not tosh, the best books i have ever read, reread as often as i can. Love the films.
Awesome books and films. I like anything fantasy though as long as it's well done.
I don't think they are tosh at all - I enjoy reading the books, and watching the films, with the added bonus that The Hobbit part 1 is out on video on April 8th! But I agree - they are not for everyone.
my bestie mate dragged me to see this at the cinema. God alone knows why I always let her chose.

very pretty scenery.

I was bored to tears.
Ab Editor, not so much to do with WW2, seeing as when he first started his books. It's be analysed to death as to what the books really mean, seeing they incorporate Arthurian type legend, Norse Mythology, and including his own harrowing experiences of the first world war. I have read them all, love every one, and consider the books masterpieces.
My OH always gets LOTR mixed up with HP, kept asking where Hagrid was!
