Sainsburys Nectar Card Policy

My husband & I went to a DIY store this morning for some small purchases. When our Nectar card was swiped at the till, the assistant noted that we had a substantial number of accumulated points & asked it we would like to spend some of them on our purchase. We did, so got our shopping free.

We then decided to go on to a nearby Sainsburys to do a large food shop with some of the remaining points. The points on our card were blocked because, we were told, we had not had the card swiped in the previous 24 hours at that store. We could have our card swiped today and return to the store tomorrow to spend some of our points. As we live in a village several miles from the store, we decided not to bother. We returned home and went to our local Tesco instead.

My husband rang the Nectar Card helpline to clarify this very odd Sainsburys policy. Apparently it has nothing to do with Nectar Card but is something dreamed up by Sainsburys. What a very odd way to attract customers!

Never heard that before - I rarely shop in Sainsburys but collect their points online and I can still use my points I have saved.
Sainsburys Careline - 0800 636 262. Call them and ask what they're playing at!
Originally you could only use them at your local store, but I had a leaflet about a year ago asvising that I could now use them at other stores if I had swiped my card there recently.
Not much good for people travelling around or those who don't have a Sainsburys branch locally. It seems to me that Nectar points are Nectar points & nothing to do with Sainsburys so that company should not put its own rules & regulations as to how & when the points can be spent.

I always use ours in Argos, too.

Thanks for your comments. I think I'll take a look in Argos & see what they've got. This experience has really put me off Sainsburys.
Did you leave everything in your trolley/at the checkout then DSJ?
