Really sorry but the old proble has raised its ugly head again.....
On the closure of the last quiz a few days ago and I am also running another for a local charity. it seems many of the regular quizzers are very unhappy about the number of answers being given on here agin spoiling it for those who like challenge etc and turning the quiz into a 'lottery'.
I have to say I do agree and despite all those who will say things like its just like asking friends, or no different than googling, I cannot agree. Virtually all the answers to my SINGLE WORD quiz have been given out on here.
So, I am back to asking that no help be asked for until mid April please giving those who are more serious quizzers time to complete and get theirs in, and then help only not answers. I do my best to avoid this issue but cant seem to help having to go back over it time and time again.
I dread the response but it seems to be what those taking part prefer so there we are. At the end of the day my aim is to raise money for MAGPAS and provide a little entertainment to those willing to support it, keeping them happy if I can.
Happy quizzing folks anyway

I know what you mean quizmouse. I will not be sending the single word quiz in because of the reason you mention but I will be sending my entry fee in as its not your fault that your quiz has been spoiled. Good luck with your MAGPAS quiz.
I agree with you entirely, quizmouse. It is not like asking friends or googling yourself! Once the answer is on here the whole world knows. I have given up a lot of quizzes because as you say it is now a "lottery". I know we will get a lot of flak for this (and for that reason I rarely post on here) and people will say it is an answer site and you do not have to look etc. but with a lot of the answers given here it spoils the fun and is no competition. I much prefer to do quizzes now where the setters says no internet help.

Well I certainly will from now on. I have thought of having an earlier send in by date, for those who dont want to see answers and then a cut off date for the hole quiz, then seperate prizes or??
But cant see it working. The problem is it takes ages setting and working out questions and within the blink of an eye they are all on here and quizzers stop asking for the quiz as it is spoiled. Guess these folks would be happier if I just sent the answer sheet with the quiz then they would have all the info they needed, Dont understand why they dont see it?
Wish there was a site on which you could purely advertise, but as far as I know its not the case.
This is a very difficult problem for you quizmouse, but I have to say that I am quite the other way around and that if you forbid me asking for help I shall not ask for your quiz. So in that case you would be losing my pound, not much I agree, but if there are more like me then it could escalate. I like doing quizzes and I do not ask for help until I am desperate but when it is driving me mad because I cannot see the answer then I succumb and ask. If I am forbidden to do this then I do not want to do your quiz but then perhaps, conversely you do not want or need me. Whatever - as the saying goes. I don't need the money prize and in fact would give it back as a donation if I won but I want to do what I want to do and not what someone else orders.
That works both ways though. After nearly all the just a single word was asked I wouldnt have bought this one so quizmouse loses your £1 and gains mine

There have already been 75 out of the 100 asked so far, most by the same few, how can they send them in and expect to compete fairly against those who have not asked for any help, obviously we all get really stuck from time to time, and yes it is frustrating, no one would mind the odd one but not 10-15 at a time surely, and it wasnt a hard quiz in my opinion, all reasonably researchable.

Any advance on the fundraising quizzes site???
quizmouse, it's really difficult for us out here who answer questions, to know sometimes which are the MAGPAS and other quizzes, because some posters don't tell us which quiz it is - they just say "what's xxx, it's a one-word name for a band". We wouldn't know then, that you'd asked for questions not to be asked on here.
Hi quizmouse, Not heard anything new about Fundraising site. All I keep getting on my bookmark page is on this link: http://www.fundraisingquizzes.net/
Don't know if we will ever see it back which will be a shame.
Further to my post above, I must admit that I have noticed some people who don't appear to do any of the questions themselves, or only a few, and ask for the answers to practically all of the clues. In that case, I would agree with you quizmouse, but I still like the option open to me that if I need to or want to, I can ask for help. And conversely, if anyone needs any help from me, and I happen to know the answer, then I want to feel free to give it.
But it does say ask from mid april and then for clues so that isnt entirely no asking and doesnt seem too much to ask - almost a happy medium
Some people as boxtops says dont even say which quiz and often ask just a few days after a quiz is out when there are months to go

And they may well still do, despite my polite request, but I can 0nly try and strike a happy balance. I know from the comments received with the quiz sheets that the majority prefer the 'no asking' and prefer to struggle and then the result is mostly their own work, much more satisfying. These same people are more than happy to send in their sheets partially filled and await the few answers after marking. However there will always be those who seem to get great delight in posting as many answers as possible, as early as possible, seemingly just to spite the quiz setters.
Ah well, its all been said before and no doubt will still be again and again...
I will not be buying this quiz either. And I know of at least one other person who will not be buying it. I will not be dictated to about something I have bought .
This is an issue that will never be resolved to everyone's satisfaction - I far prefer the 'no asking' rule myself.

I do so many quizzes, some have a strict rule, others a polite request and some no mention, what staggers me is a quiz can be out 2 or 3 days and people are asking and not just one or two, in my pile at the moment I have a few that have me at the hair tearing stage....still loving the challenge though.
My 'singles' quiz will be going in today with about 10 unanswered questions and some no doubt wrong. Cannot be bothered trawling through all submissions, I would rather know that it has been my own effort. I do ask the occasional question as most do but that quiz got ridiculous in my view. I do politely ask on my quizzes to leave asking for online help until 3 weeks before closing date and most do with a polite reminder if I see the odd one asked early. 3 weeks is ample time to ask, get answered and submit.

Thays kind of my view too. And for those like margaretrae and whoever I see their point too, I will have to run with that, I do wonder though if they sit for days/hours working out questions, trying to get a happy mix and level of clues, only to see it spoiled within days and then the money it should raise being so drastically lowered.
Such a shame those repeated askers dont care or dont have a conscience.
