Hi all. I have currently got a prepayment gas meter installed and i wanted to know how i go about getting it removed. The way british gas are increasing prices it seems sensible to switch to a more competitive provider, can only switch if i have a normal meter apparently. Thanks for any feedback

You are right that prepayment meters are about the most expensive way of buying gas. They are typically used where the fuel supplier has inadequate confidence in the consumer's credit rating or ability to pay quarterly in arrears. You should be able to switch to a normal meter if you contact the gas supplier (which may be BG or another energy supplier). You will have a make a credit application and almost certainly have a bank account. You may also have a to pay a one off cost to have the meter switched over.
Yes, I've just moved into a flat with pre payment meters. Fortunately I have a good credit history with a different supplier who are going to fit me credit meters at no charge because of my record with them. You have to stay with the current supplier for a month though.
