Can anyone help me with my Kindle please? I have tried to switch it on but the only thing on the screen is the picture of the battery telling me to charge it, so I have plugged charger in to Kindle and mains and the orange light comes on Kindle then in seconds it goes to green as if it is charged but it is not . The picture of battery is on screen all the time. I have tried to press all buttons but nothing else happens. can I take it somewhere (Comet maybe) or what else can I do?

You could try this handygran. Hope it helps. If the battery isn’t too far gone, here’s how to revive it: 1. If the battery isn’t too far gone, here’s how to revive it:
1. Plug the device into the Kindle A/C adapter (not your computer) and let it charge for a few hours. Be sure the charging light is lit — sometimes a drained Kindle will stop charging a few seconds after you plug it in. Unplug and replug until the light stays on steadily, then leave it alone. Most of the time you’ll come back to a restored Kindle. If not, go on to step 2.
2. If you still see the same Critical Battery screen after charging, unplug the USB cord, then hold the power slide to the right for at least 20 seconds.
3. Release the power slide, then immediately press and hold the Home key for another 30 – 45 seconds.
4. Once the Kindle’s screen begins to flash, release the Home key. The eReader will boot to recovery mode. To continue, press and hold the R key until the screen flashes again.
5. After the device is finished rebooting, you may see the Critical Battery screen once more. If so, plug in the USB cord and wait for the Kindle to return to the Home screen.

I am printing your answer then my husband will have a go. Thank you Marje.
Haven't seen my Kindle for months, gave it to my husband. I think, from memory, that the power slide is on the top of the Kindle. Give it a try handygran.
Do hope it works handygran, fingers crossed.

Thank you so much will let you know what happens.

Looked for power slide on mine Marje but I can't find it. It is just the standard Kindle not one of the more expensive ones.
Is there a slider for turning on/off, I would think all models should have one and this is your power slide. Do you know which model you have and have you got the instructions? If not, Google them and that should tell you what to do.

Sorry I can't be any more help handygran.

Funnily enough, when I found mine it was in the same state as yours and now I'm having to follow the instructions I gave you to charge the battery. Hope it works.

Best of luck.
Just found something that may help if you have no instructions.

Go to www.Amazon.co.uk, then Help, Kindle Support, Kindle Documentation and there each model is shown along with user guides. Pick the model you have and hopefully that should tell you what to do.

No luck yet Marje but I will keep trying your suggestions. Don't have any instruction book with it only small folder with "how to charge" it before use. Going on to "Help" website you have sent me. Thanks for helping. Will be in touch when I have success. Don't hold your breath though.
That's odd handygran. Have you found the power slide? Do keep me up to date.
powerslide is the on/off button (the newer ones press rather than slide)
