My nephew has been off work sick for nearly 6 months following surgery that went wrong, so needed revision to correct it.

Importunately its reverted to where it was before the revision...he see's his consultant later this week to know what happens next. He is desperate to get back to work, Being self employed he has no income.

Today his wife has been told she will be redundant from her place of work at the end of the month.

Both are in their 50's and have worked since they left school,. They are horrified to find themselves in a position where they will need to claim benefits.

I'm wondering what they can claim? Any ideas?

He needs to claim esa....she needs to claim jsa.....phone job centre to make appt to claim and for advice on other benefits like carers or dla...also local council for housing..council tax benefits....
i have a feeling esa will depend on what NI contributions he has paid as a self employed person. Can he do any work at all (not just his self employed stuff?)
Will she get any redundancy payment? it might affect the benefits they can get
