I'm prob missing something here and I'm poss gonna get slated, but here goes ............
In tonight's episode of "All Star Family Fortunes", the family won 10k at the end and then told us which charity the money was going to : "Out There" - A charity set up in aid of families of prisoners (in the Manchester area ?) Ok, what am I missing - aren't people in prison for a reason ?? Why the freakin' 'ell should we be setting up charities to help their familes ??
Surely this money would be best spent on the victims of crime ??

Of course you do Sillie. x
Hi Headwreck....guess I'm a little bit influenced by having worked with some little ones who had parents in prison or on the game...... and I'm a bit soft at times...not with the RSPCA though. :-)
That's fine.. If you're ever on Celebrity Family Fortunes, pick another charity :0)

Did they explain what the charity did? If it's aim is to try and change their way of life then surely it can be only be a good things. Children learn from their parents, breaking the cycle is a good thing.

Agreed ummmm.
If it was more than just a case of offering financial help, etc, to the families and offered additional help, such as trying to break the cycle, etc, then I'd be more favourable towards the charity.
Zacs provided a link on page 1. They offer friendship and support, not financial aid.

I can agree in principle with the charity's intentions, but I stand by my earlier comment:
"I can't help feel that some prisoners would be scoffing at the fact that their families were being helped after their wrong-doings."
.... and as for the charity not providing financial help;
quotes from Zac's link:
"..... the gift of a holiday inclusive of door-to-door transport for the whole family ......"
and:
"At Christmas I was really sad because it was my son's first Christmas and his dad was not around. However, we received gifts from Out There ...."
I take your point, Giz, but it is a little like asking what is the best charity. Many might decide to vote for ones with which they are personally connected in one way or another. To be fair, mentioning such a charity just might get some people to consider the innocent family members of criminals.
We also don't know why someone turns to crime.
The little boy received gifts on his first Christmas through this charity. If they were the only gifts he received that justifies the charity and I'll bet you wouldn't see a child unhappy at Christmas whatever the circumstances Giz. ;-) x
Umm, don't people turn to crime for gain?
In the past I would have said stuff 'em, hope I am more tolerant now (probably nowhere near as tolerant as I could be). 'Till you land on your arse from an almighty high (of our own making) you don't really start to appreciate how bad things can be (eg, your husband rings social services to ask how to feed your children).
Jeza - not always.
