Has anyone cooked potato gnocchi (shop bought) by frying or roasting with a little oil as Nigella did on TV recently? I appeared she did this from the fridge, ie didn't boil them first ...... surely they need boiling to "floating point" first to ensure the insied is fluffy ....... anyone tried?

And is it better to pan fry or roast?

Hi echokilo, my Nonna used to do this with home-made gnocchi. She pan-fried them in olive oil, chilli and some fresh sage. Gnocchi are just potato, flour and egg so frying them still cooks them through. If you boil them first, then fry them you will end up with a soggy mess! :)

I used shop bought ones Vodka ... and I simmered them til they floated and then fried them off immediately .... but yes, agreed, if I havemade the gnocchi fresh it would have been a right old mess .... should have made it clearer that I was cheating with shop ones ....... they were amazing!!! And so lovely eaten with yesterdays beef bourguignon ..... the downside (??) .... there were a few left over, which I managed to scoff cold last night!!!
Yum! Gnocchi is one of my most favourite things....shop bought ones are fabulous too and I always have a pack in my freezer. I'm glad you enjoyed it and it is now on my menu for one night this week! :) x
