My printer says off line which it isn't. However, the "check print cartridge" light is flashing. Could this be the reason that it won't print? I don't understand why I have message that printer is off line

What make of printer is it and does it have an error code on i?
My guess would be that the printer has taken itself off line becuase it detects it is low on ink. Sort the ink out and see if the problem goes away.

No error messages. will sort out ink and see if that solves problem. Don't want to spend out money on cartridges if printer is caput. It is an HP 1100 series all in one printer and is quite old. I had to get drivers from internet to make it "speak" to my Acer laptop because the HP set up disc would not load on my laptop. They weren't exactly correct for the model but they work although I do have a few annoying glitches with printing because i don't get the usual error messages but can usually sort them out. Maybe I should invest in a new wifi printer would be easier!!
I've just got a HP wifi printer, it's brillant, £45 from Argos, it has it's own email address so you can send it documents to print fom anywhere.

My old Kodak printer would constantly default to offline, it drove me mad.
if it's still not working once you've checked ink and all is ok with that, try re-installing printer settings. I had the same problem the other week with my printer.
That's an issue I've come across before. Does one buy cartridges, find a problem, and have to replace the printer anyway, or not buy them, not fix what might be a simple thing, and splurge wads on a new printer ? I've tended to 'bite the bullet' and invest in a cartridge to check with. Worst comes to worst a new printer may be available that uses the same cartridges as your existing one.
change your USb data cable or try to install latest updated driver for the printer
You could also try cleaning the electrical contacts on the cartridge and the printer with a small artist's brush using Methylated Spirits but switch the printer OFF first before removing cartridge and then let the Meths dry properly before replacing cartridge.
A poor contact will/can affect the operation of the printer.
Have you checked the printer status ? Sometimes it stops working if the file is too big and then you keep trying it then there is a queue which some printers don't like. Try deleting all documents in the printer queue. Shut down and try again,
I should add when you try again use a small file just to test it .
You can also run the test page which all printers have.
The important thing is to ensure you are starting from an empty printer memory.
I forgot to mention most printers can be tested without being connected
to a computer. So you can find out if its the printer or the computer.
