to all the English doctors? I had an appointment today at the surgery and I could hardly understand what the doctor was saying to me. Could have been telling me I only had one week to live for all I know. Fortunately, my visit was for nothing too serious.

let me guess ........ indian
So were they Scottish?
I had that with a Scottish doctor once. Usually I can understand most Scots perfectly well but that one had a broader accent than Rab C Nesbitt.

If you can't understand your doctor you should always insist that a nurse or other staff member join the room and translate. You should not feel embarrassed about it.
We are supposed to embrace the foreign doctors working here,but I agree with you I'm afraid it is the same here in Scotland I sometimes feel an interpreter is required,oh I just noticed your avatar,can I assume you are in Scotland too?Do we train our doctors then they go abroad to work?

Yes, it was an Indian. I was married to a Scot for 47 years so I guess I would be able to understand one. Not in Scotland yet, but soon.
It all depends which part of Scotland they come from,which accent etc as some of them are difficult for a native British person to understand!
Our doctor decided to go for a better life forhis wife and 3 children all un7. so he upped sticks and went of to New Zealand to take up in a Univeersity hospital!!
That's under 7 years of age and University.
That's our answer then they are emigrating,as we thought fed up with this country and state of NHS,on to pastures new and a new life,while all foreign doctors are coming here,fair exchange and all that!!
.
When my husband was in hospital he was looked after by a lovely male nurse, he had been nursing for 20 years but decided to leave. He said the different rules were against his training he couldn't take the lack of focus on the patients. He was Scottish (but I could understand him).
