Hi there,

Recently I've noticed that theres long blades of grass in my 2 year old Yorkshire Terrier's poop. He's eating well and is generally healthy but is VERY conscious about anyone being near his rear end. He won't let you touch anywhere near his tail without a struggle and trying to lift up his tail to check his behind causes him distress. He's been to the vets recently and was given the all clear but just wondering if this grass eating/rear end thing could be connected somehow??

Any ideas would be wonderful,

Thanks guys

Dogs do eat grass. My two eat grass all the time. Sometimes it's like having two cows grazing in the garden. They particularly like new grown grass. Don't worry about it.
... and dogs do have rear ends...et voila "grass eating/rear end thing connected..."!
I didn't know that dogs also ate grass,my cats do.
my dogs love to eat foal manure. Its full of partially digested spring grass and, by them, delicious!
My dogs eats lots of grass and he never ever lets me near his rear end, he just sits on the floor til I leave him alone.
I used to think that my Dads Boxer that he rescued from the RSPCA was a bit demented eating Grass but it seems its perfectly normal, I did wonder about him trying to bury his Turds like a cat though.
Eating grass wont do him any harm, they usually do it if they have an upset tummy, but just wondering if he has had his anal glands checked if he wont let you near his rear end?
Mine eat grass, and when one finds a nice clump of fresh couch grass they all join in and will even it it from my hand if I pick it for them. Think its just a natural way of clearing their digestive system.
I always thought dogs only ate grass when they didn't feel well?
My brother told us a few yrs ago how his dog had something hanging from his behind while out on his walk near the seafront in Bournmouth.
Whatever it was wouldnt drop onto the floor, so Brother had to slowly pull it out of his dog. Unbelievable ---
Yards and yards of knitting wool. Gospel truth and still laugh about it to this day. haha
Dogs do eat grass, mine do, nobody really knows why they do it, some say its for health reasons some say it is just recreational, either way it will do them no harm (generally speaking) and yes sometimes it will pass through their bodies undigested. as for not wanting their bottoms examined, that is perfectly natural I think.
Mine seem to eat it as a treat!
Our cats eat grass when they want to vomit - seems a natural thing to do
Cocksfoot (Dactylis glomerata) grass is the one favoured by my GSD. I think it may be because of the rough edges of the blades of grass.
I really miss my little dog, he used to enjoy eating all the couch grass as it appeared, now I have to weed it out. He hated anyone being near his rear end!
