1. Why are people posting on the 'Username Amnesty' thread, when they want to keep the same name?
2. Why are some asking how long they have to change their name? That information is given in the opening post.
3. Why are some asking how to change their name? Also given in opening post!

This sounds like a lot of work for someone, adding needless posts is only making that job harder!
Rant over.

That why I suggested a new thread where people put their request for a new username and 'only' their username. That way the Ed does not have to trawl through the drivel.

I'm now confused...

Huh?
Personally I can't believe the floodgates this has opened. Won't people for ages be saying I used to be so-and-so? Good luck with it Ed.
I asked to be known as ABeditor.....
That bit the dust!
You are in good company B00
What's the confusion, B00? It seems all posts have been removed from the Amnesty thread where the posts isn't directly proposing a change
A Clue for B00

Which Ed said he would remove Factor in the OP.
Hi B00. Yes, Ed did say "We'll likely remove off-topic discussion from this thread fairly harshly", but I don't think people realised that meant posts saying " I don't want to change" would be removed. Anyway, I was just trying to work out what the point of confusion was you referred to
//Why are some asking how to change their name? Also given in opening post!//
The opening post, Sipowicz, gave us an answerbank address to click on to find avatars already used but all that happened when I did click onto it was that I came back to the same page.
I could find no other avatar names.
It does work parkdale, but it perhaps wasn't explained fully. If you put in an existing name (eg 'parkdale' or 'factor30') it goes to your/my profile, showing the name already exists.
If you then put in a new name that you'd like (e.g. 'neverbeenused') it will either:
(a) take you to the profile page of whoever already has that name or
(b) bring you back to the opening page, which confirms the chosen name isn't already in use.
Thanks factor. I assume when you say, if you put in a name, that's in the search strip at the top which is what I'll try.
It Works! It works!
Thanks again factor30. I'm pretty useless at this computer lark.
I want a hyphenectomy - but only if I can replace it with a space ... but I can't ... so I'll just soldier on as I am

< sob >
Ed said he would be ruthless with posts that did not belong, and you will see that he has been. So all the posts which weren't concerned with altering the name have been wiped.
Just had a look at it, the cull of off-topic posts does appear to be a bit selective in places!
I think the user name change is the single most exciting event of the week!

The potential for utter confusion is just delightful.
I'm torn between changing to either 'username' or 'password'?
"The potential for utter confusion is just delightful."

I'm looking forward to it too :)
It can be no coincidence that AnswerBankEditor is an anagram of

As far as not knowing who's who, or was, I'm sure most users will recognise the Avatars!
