My husband has a summons to do jury service. As his employer is not under any obligation to pay his normal wage whilst he is serving, we have worked out that if the case goes on for 2 weeks, taking into account 'expenses paid' by HM, we will be 900 pounds out of pocket.
His employers may pay him, of course but surely this is not a good situation.
I can't recall any outcry about this at any time.
Are we missing something?

when was it any different?
Is that after you have claimed loss of earnings?

Yes. After taking into account the expenses. It is nowhere near his normal earnings. That's why I'm asking if we're missing something.
My hubby was also summoned last week.... The daily amount they repay you for loss of earnings just covers our rent and leaves us with £5. (Per week) That's not gonna pay the bills and feed the kids is it! He is self employed so no one is gonna be paying him for time off!
And they wonder why people are always trying to get out if it.
The obvious flaw in all this is that the employer's certificate of loss of earnings may not match what the employee thinks they should be. That must be a serious risk that someone whose wages include commission or r overtime and the like, will find that the employer's return gives only the basic wage, for example.
le chat, it has always been thus. My hb was in the same position a few years ago - he is quite a high earner, and the difference in monies made us swallow hard when we worked it out. However, all was ok in the end because his employer paid him.

Thanks for your answers. I hope his employer will pay him or things will be difficult. :(
