We are taking our daughter, son in law, and 2 young grandchildren away in our caravan in august and im thinking the new forest area would be good as lots to see and its coastal too. We will be taking our dogs. Can anyone recommend a family and dog friendly camp site somewhere in that area please? Or if not a suitable campsite somewhere else that would be interesting? Oh yes and i am aware dogs are generally not allowed on beached particularly in august but if you know of anywhere that we could take them (along with nearby caravan site) that would also be good to hear! Many thanks.

I've heard good things about Sandy Balls....I'm trying not to snigger.....
I would highly recommend Hurst View just outside Lymington. (If you are there on a Saturday, Lymington market is worth a wander) The campsite has a lovely big play area for children and you can have real fires. The toilet blocks are immaculately clean and the staff are very friendly. http://hurstviewleisure.co.uk/open-camp.htm

That looks just the kind of place we are looking for LDC134 - i cant work out how close it is to the beach though? Would love to be able to walk out without using car?
There isn't a 'beach' as such - more a coastline walk, so you are close (walking distance) to the sea but it's not a beach where children can play / paddle. An alternative site which I have stayed at is this one http://www.southsealeisurepark.com/ where you are right on the (shingle) beach and also it has a swimming pool, plus the attractions of Southsea and Portsmouth are close by.
UKCampsite.co.uk is a superb website, which features details and reviews of just about every campsite in the country.

The link below has filters for 'Hampshire', 'Caravans' and 'Dogs Allowed' already activated. Select any further filters you require from the list on the left and then look through the results:
