I have a 1 year old Panansonic Widescreen TV, Telewest cable, Panansonic DVD Player and a Philips video. Can anyone help with the best way to connect them together using scart leads. I currently use one of the multi socket scart boxes but the problem with this is that every time I want to change device, I have to push a set of switches. However I believe that the TV should be able to change automatically if I dont use the scart box. I hope that this makes sense! Any recommendations will be greatly appreciated! PS unfortunately the manual does not tell me how to do this.

...or you can get SCART boxes that autoswitch!

you need to say how many scart sockets each unit has, since any answer will depend on this.

Romko, all devices have 2 scart sockets except the dvd which has 1.

I would connect as follows:

-Telewest decoder to video scart 1.

-Video scart 2 (or whatever one gives an output) to tv scart 1 .

-dvd to tv scart 2 (switch off the dvd when not in use to prevent it blocking the set on this AV input!)

This will enable you to make the highest quality recordings by putting the video into AV or Aux mode to get the cable signal.

The dvd must have its own socket i.e. not through the vcr, if not, copy protection distorts the pic.

To view cable, set the video to Aux /AV (signal from cable box)as above, and the tv to AV input 1 (video input).

You may also want to get a couple of RF coaxial leads - so you can watch normal TV while taping off cable, say, Connect aerial to vcr RF in, and then vcr RF out to tv aerial in.

Tune the tv to the video channel (UHF 36 more or less) .

NOTE: If you don't have an aerial, then connect instead telewest decoder's RF out to the vcr and then vcr to tv as above.

You will find that with that setup, you will be able to do every switch- over from the remotes.

Good luck!

Romko, your answer is very useful. I have a similar problem but slightly different. My Video has no SCART sockets but I can watch the video on TV by using the AV out from the video to the AV in sockets on the TV. My problem is getting a cable picture through the video. i have connected the TV connection on the Telewest set top box to the Antenna on the video but I am unable to get a picture throught to the TV. I can however watch video tapes on TV using this system. The video is quite old I guess but I cannot see why it cannot get a signal from the cable box. Any ideas? or just get a new video?..:-(
