A neighbour has bought me a sweat from M&S which Is too small across the chest. It it possible for me to exchange it for a bigger size without bothering her for a receipt to show? Would like to be wearing it when we pop in for drinks at Christmas.

I thought this was possible
You might have to give your friend a ring, seadogg.

Could you ask your friend to meet you and take both items into M & S. Give your friend the bag and the right size and ask your friend to exchange them with the receipt. Some companies now won't even give an exchange without the receipt (Not your fault, of course). Perhaps your friend could have asked for a gift receipt instead and given you that.

Many thanks for the answers. I couldn't quite find what I wanted on the site but that clinches it marvel. Dare not ask the friend before Xmas Judge N. as she would tell me off for pre-opening and they will be away afterwards.
Oh dear, you are in a pickle. Why are you opening your Christmas presents early?
You might have to buy a bigger size yourself and pretend it's the one she bought.

Just wanted to check the size . Promise I wont take any more sneaky looks dear Tilly.
Do it soon, the queue at the customer service desk after Crimbo can be horrendous.
I agree with Hopkirk, but they are usually pretty good about exchanging unwanted gifts - but DO get the receipt. If the cost of the sweat has gone down in the sale after Christmas, unless you can prove the original cost you may only get a credit for the sale price (that is, assuming the size you want is no longer available).
