I once walked along the pennine way from Edale to Crowdon in Longdendale at which point my buddy sprained his ankle, we managed to thumb a lift and were dropped off at a pub at a crossroads from where we could get a bus into Huddersfield.

The question which is driving us bonkers is what was the name of the pub, it was something like The Crouch Inn although that doesn't sound quite right.

I have scoured my maps and I cant pinpoint where this darned crossroads is.

I know this is vague but if you can shine any light on this I would be grateful

I think it's the flouch. I live in Holmfirth. The Flouch is a roundabout on the woodhead pass (A628 Manchester to Barnsley/M1). You would have got a lift along the A629 passing the turning down into Holmfirth. It's a funny combination restaurant. Last time I went it had Italian and Chinese on the ground floor, with Indian in the basement. It was very quiet, but the Italian side was even quieter than the Chinese half where we were eating. The Italian waiters tried to persuade us to swap sides. When my partner's going over to Manchester for something I'm not part of, I ask to be dropped off at Crowdon so I can walk back over the Black Hill to the A635 (Isle of Skye Road). In winter with snow and blue skies it can be brilliant. One New Year we were walking with a friend and a helicopter rose over the hill. It felt like being in Switzerland. Hope you get further along the Pennine Way next time.
