Why does Mythology come under History but Religion comes under Society and Culture.

Surely some mistake !

What is your suggestion ? Move them both over to fiction ?

I guess it seems myths are from the distant past, whist religion still exists operating in society today.
Just as the existence of God cannot be proved, His non-existence, (which would make His existence mythological), cannot be proved either. However, many believe in Him in our society, and this is reflected in our culture.
Mythology comes from folk memory from the distant past. One such myth/memory is of Moses and his followers crossing the Red sea as it opened up,and seeing a "pillar of fire" There is a school of thought which says that what he/they saw was the eruption of Thera (Santorini) one of the largest volcanic event ever to hit Europe. But it is seen ,or was seen, as a myth but now seems to be a folk memory. So someone, who was with Moses and his followers, actually saw the event of this vast eruption and wrote it down.
