Selling on Amazon - postage costs

I sell quite a few books on Amazon and I've been doing it for a while. When you enter a book's details the system automatically sets a postage cost. Recently I've sold a few heavy books and the postal cost is higher than the sale price.
I wondered if anyone else has experienced this with Amazon and how it can be solved.

Yes - it's their standard rate, which takes no account of the weight of the book. I have priced books higher to allow for this.

That's the logical approach - but when the going rate for a book is 1p, if you put yours at a price that will cover eg the £4.50 postage.......

as a buyer, it's obvious which one would get 'left on the shelf'...

I put some very heavy books on Amazon, and listed them in the Buy Now section, and added the costs of the delivery into the total price. They seem not to realise that very heavy books need to go by courier.
