There have been loads of 'best guitar solo' threads on here, but what about the worst ones you've ever heard. Mine is the one in 'Hot Stuff' by Donna Summer. I cringe every time I hear it ! Come on then, let's hear yours....

Anything involving the words 'The' and 'Darkness'.
Pretty much most Status Quo attempts..... trying to think of one in particular but I think my brain has erased such memories.

Gary Baldy - you are being a musical snob. I love rock music but generally sway towards the indie genre but Justin Hawkins is a fantastic guitarist. Even my brother who loves Sepultura and the likes is amazed at what a good guitarist he is. It may sound dated but thats how they sound you therefore must chuck in iron Maiden, Guns n roses, van halen etc infact any 80s metal band.

Personally I woulg go for the one in everything I do Brian Adams .

Several Yes compilations contain a dreadful version of Amazing Grace played by Chris Squire on bass.
The only 'bad' solo i can think of is the one on 'There's A Guy Works Down The Chip Shop Swears He's Elvis' by Kirsty McColl - but it's obviously done in an 'ironic' way - with notes all over the shop, finally making its way back into tune by accideent.
If seeing The Darkness for what they are (talentless pantomime act) makes me a musical snob then wrap me up in Christmas paper, post me to Snob Land where i will be crowned King of the Snobs.
I must admit i hate rock music but that doesnt mean i dont know a bunch of charlatans when i see them.
Just cos they are good musicians doesnt make them any good - in fact some of the worse pop music imaginable has been turned out by 'good musicians'.
I also nominate PC Plum's solo in Follow the Clue (any parent of toddlers will know what i mean)

Put me down as a musical snob as well then.

I despise the darkness.

Got the wrapping paper ready, gary baldy. I havent professed to like them I just think his guitar solos are the best bits about their songs. Seeing as this was the link not which band do you think are bunch of muppets.
Not havin' a go G! Just think they are rubbish, their records are rubbish and consequently the guitar solos are rubbish.

I love these songs but Van Halen's Jump and Europe's Final Countdown feature some pretty pedestrial noodling. It's like the song stops for the guitarist. I wouldn't recognise them if played in isolation.

More recently, McFly's That Girl - awful. The kind of solos featured in Angels and Torn annoy me too. You know the ones - yawn.

Nice to see we're back on track after a bit of 'band bashing' in the middle (not what it's about really). Someone mentioned Guns 'n Roses earlier, well what about Slash's solo, well I say solo but the whole thing really, you know, his effort in Michael Jackson's 'Black & White'. Did he just record it once (the riff, solo or whatever you want to call it) then hit the repeat button ?Now I don't actually play guitar but I reckon even I could have managed that one. 'avin' a larf weren't he?
