Anyone explain what this means regarding the spec on a new Nikon camera ?

Range (approx.) (ISO sensitivity: Auto)

[W]: 0.5 to 8.0 m (1 ft 8 in. to 26 ft) [T]: 1.5 to 4.5 m (5 ft to 14 ft)

Not a lot to go on, which Nikon camera? It looks a little like the flash coverage

Fitzer is right: this should be labelled 'Effective flash range'. Yes, that will b e the effective range of the built in flash with the camera set on Auto.
