Turkey stress

Yesterday I bought a fresh Turkey in M & S, with a sell by date of 26 December. Mentioned this to some friends today and they were convinced it wouldn't keep in my fridge until Christmas Day. Now I am stressed and paranoid about my fridge temperature (which is exactly what it should be according to the thermometer)! Should I be concerned, and if so is it now too late to put it in the freezer for a few days??

The sell by date is only the date that it should leave the shelves of the shop. The best before date will usually be a day or two after this date (bringing you to about the 28th December. I think you will be fine keeping it chilled until christmas day, and if you cook it on xmas day (as I assume you will be!) it will last longer as cooked meat lasts longer than raw
....it will b fine...i wud undo the wrapping so the cold air gets inside...just watch for any drips though

It is fine, you are cooking before the 27th so what is the problem?


Some meat does tend to go off quick but chicken is usually ok. Marks wouldn't sell you anything dodgy.


I think that sausages go off quickly and pork chops, I never leave them till the last minute.
