What is the cheapest way to send money to a Spanish bank account? HSBC used to charge nine pounds each time but now its seventeen pounds which seems a huge hike. My brother in law has a villa out there with a mortgage still on it but cannot deposit in lump sums so has to send funds each month.

shop around, different banks will charge different amounts
I had this problem sending money for a deposit for flat rental. It is extortionate isn't it? I would have thought that Santander would have an account in Spain..which you can transfer to. Worth a try!
Natwest electronic banking via your computer charges £10 per international credit transfer of up to £25,000 (I think)per day. Once you have set it up for the recipient account it is very quick and easy.
Don't mess around with the traditional banks who are rip-off merchants. Simply open an account with wise.com and see the difference.

I have no connection with them except as an extremely satisfied user since 2013 and have transferred well over £100,000 with them during that time.

I'm also happy to answer any questions that you might have.
