Hi.I went on the internet for french onion soup and there are many recipes to choose from which is good but one ingredient puzzles me,"Beef Broth". Does this mean cans of beef soup or is it another name for beef stock such as oxo cubes etc. All help is most welcome

Knorr stock pots are good for soup bases if you don't want to spend years boiling bones. Stick with the ordinary strength for Fr onion (they also do a more beefy one that is good for stews and chili's etc).
In this case 'beef broth' would mean a clear stock or consomme.
Forgot to add - go easy on the salt until you taste it as the stock pots can be too salty for some tastes.

The french have a tendancy of using up juices, sauces etc from one dish to make another dish. They might, say, make a pot au feu for Sunday then use the 'bouillon' left to make onion soup for the week. This 'bouillon' will be what has been translated to 'beef broth'. A beef cube such as knorr (Oxo is too salty and bitter in my opinion) can also be used. The secret to a good French Onion soup is the cooking of the onions, they have to caramelize so they are sweeter.
I cook my onions (with a couple of cloves of garlic) very very slowly so they caramelise. I then add a Knorr beef stock pot. I don't usually need any seasoning.

Thank you all once again. I made a small batch yesterday using Knorr strong beef stockpot and crushed garlic and my family tell me it was excellent.I didn't like it much myself but as long as everyone else does that makes me happy. cheers....
