You have the E36 3-series. I have the E46 3-series and they still haven't cured the problem, mine does it too, as did the unit I had in my E36. The problem does lie in the resistor pack, but which one I don't know.

Skids, I'm possibly thinking of getting a 318 or a 320 in March (prolly a 98/99 plate - they're really cheap here in Munich!). What are things to look out for? Is the 320 a 4 or 6 cylinder? Know of any sites that can give me a breakdown on all the features/options?

KebabMeister (sorry for not answering your question hd36kc) - 316 and 318 are 4 cylinder. 320, 323, 325, 328, 330 are 6 cylinder. I don't know of a site that willl list the options available on old models. Ideally go for a Sport rather than an SE. The only real problem is the climate control mentioned above. Make sure the tool kit is complete, the warning triangle is there and the torch in the glove box is there (and working).

are'nt the six cylinder engine prone to expensive camshaft problems? or is it just those that have been abused?
try www.eurocarparts.co.uk (hope this is correct!) i've bought parts for my old 325i E30 in the past, they're very resonable, hope this helps.
Thanks for the info... I'll wait until after the harsh Munich winter before buying something! Was also looking at BMW Z3 1.9 or 2.8 and they're going for a reasonable price. I'll probably go for a 320 though.
I fixed the climate control in my BMW. All you need is a resistor soldering iron and solder. Part is only a few pence, There is a free site where an american guy shows clearly how to do it along with clear pictures and instructions. Unfortunately i can't remember the address but if you look on ebay you can buy the web address for around a quid. Just search for BMW climate in automotive and it'll come up. Hope this helps
