Penalty for driving scooter without L plates or tax disc

My scooter was vandalised a week ago and they took my tax disc and L plates which I haven't replace. My scooter has been taken away.

What is the likely penalty for this?

No expert but a few decades ago I had a moped and some B.... took off the L plates and I couldn't be bothered to replace them. Got found out when my headlamp blew miles from home, and got a slap on the wrist type of fine for it then. (Can't recall if I got a few points too, probably.) Of course things may have changed in the intervening period. Not sure about the tax disk, could be considered more serious. But I don't think they are likely to but on the black cap for you.
