As I keep being reminded by pop-up messages, my McAfee Internet Security package is about to expire. What is the best package to replace it?
Apologies if this has already been asked.

they're absolutely fine, Euphemia, so you're not compromising security at all.

most people say Microsoft Security Essentials, which is free. It didn't work for me, so I have Avast, which is also free.
oh, that's for antivirus work. It's on all the time. Plus I have Malwarebytes, which I run once a week (for a couple of minutes) just to check I haven't picked up anything bad. Plus a firewall which you almost certainly have anyway

Thanks jno, I seem to remember having problems with Avast but that was quite a long time ago so could give it another try.
I think I have a firewall but, as a complete idiot, how do I find out?
I have MSE security essentials and it has been very good, no poblems at all. I had MCafee and I replaced it with MSE , does every thing MaC Afee did and its free.
just search for firewall in your search panel. As far as I know Windows comes with one automatically these days.

Sometimes programmes work better (or worse) when new versions come out. If Avast doesn't do it for you, try AVG. It's free too. So's Malwarebytes, by the way. I don't think there's anything wrong with McAfee except paying for it.
Eddie, just to say I have a Toshiba external hard drive, which I back up everything on to. For some reason MSE woudln't recognise it, so I had to delete it and try Avast instead, which works fine.

Thanks, both. Being a tight-fisted Fifer, I think my preference is for one of the free packages!
I bought a Dell laptop with 1 month McAfee security on it.I want to install Kaspersky on it. The McAfee has expired. The Kaspersky wont install until I remove the McAfee. I have tried going to uninstall but it doesnt seem to work
On the menu it says size and the space is blank but i still cant install Kaspersky.Any help greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Firewall checked and switched on.
I am at a loss to understand folk paying for something when, for nothing, there are alternatives which are just as good and sometimes even better.

Ron.
