Why do you call him Barry? Have I missed a joke?
Question Author
It's a 'geezer-ism'.......
Does 'Barry' organise his own campaigns then?
lol.
Question Author
Barry, is his preferred name for informal usage.
I thought you meant Barry from Eastenders.
I was thinking of Barry Humphries.
Whilst he may not organize his own campaigns I am sure he has a veto on anything he dislikes.

Yes Thatcherite, signs of a desperate lefty.
Hardly desperate. Romney made himself a sitting target by saying he'd slash the PBS budget , although he liked Big Bird. Obama responded by saying that he hadn't realised Big Bird was responsible for the deficit. And thousands rallied to the defence of Big Bird.
(Hadn't realised that any ABer was on friendly first name terms with the President of the United States. Barry, eh?)
Its not Barry's retort that is in question here though FP, its the ad. And that does rather smack of desperation, especially without getting the backing of the writers.
Weird how people think, I was wondering if Barry was getting desperate since he and his brother, Paul never got a new series ............
Campaigns sometimes do a joke or a line to death. Wouldn't call that desperate. And as forgetting consents or clearances, US campaigns are notorious for using campaign music by bands or composers who are not only not of the same persuasion but may not be getting paid the royalties for each playing.

yeah me and Bazza, Fred! drinking buddies.
Its an attack ad. A type of campaigning prevalent on both sides of the debate, and a feature of US politics.

Hardly a sign of desperation - rather, not clearing something with the originators first. Big Bird is an iconic character, and its creators non-partisan so an error in preparation. We have seen similar over here, and in the US, with musicians objecting to their work being used for a particular party.
