if they lived and died in Dublin/limerick, it is not going to be a simple matter of looking for them on an online database like ancestry. from the info you have given there is a possible birth registration for joseph in the irish index, but unless you can verify that with a copy certificate then it's still not sure to be him. how do you know as much as you do about his parents? have you already got the certificate or have you found a baptism?
Joseph was born 3 Sep 1877 in Cork. His parents are showing as John Quirk or Tuirk and Ellen Quirk Sullivan.
that will be the same one i found craft
Ireland, Civil Registration Births Index, 1864-1958 Ireland, Civil Registration Births Index, 1864-1958
Name: Joseph Quirk
Date of Registration: 1877
Registration district: Cork
Birth Country: Ireland
Volume: 15
Page: 107

whether the certificate will give any sound info i'm not sure, it's format was like england and wales and may give some extra detail like fathers occupation and the place of birth.

Thanks dot. I don't have a subscription for ancestry or other ones and I notice that Family Search give quite a few of the same names but different dates of birth albeit a couple of years etc but which one could be correct? Any other help would be grateful but I know some of the Irish records were burnt all those years ago. Thanks again...bestdriver
yes important records were lost, but not as many as people tend to think, though many probate records were lost which was a significant resource and cannot be replaced. your ancestor was catholic which means the parish registers would not have been affected.
