Its the time of year when I go away for a few days and my poor overworked PC gets a few days switch off. And I mean a complete shutdown.

On my return yesterday main CPU box switched on fine, after I gave the router 5 mins to sort itself out, and internet and main C: Drive along with inbuilt peripherals all A1. My problem is with the external peripherals - 2 HDDs, printer and webcam. None of them seem to exist.

Thought it might be the USB hub as the power light didnt come on so I splashed out on another powered one but to no success.

I had a look in computer properties / device manager but that might as well be in Chinese as there appears to be a 2 generic USB hubs [ a 7-port (the one I bought?) and a 5-port too!] along with 2 Root Hubs???

Any ideas from techy ABers welcome

Sorry for the ommissions

PC is an HP Pavillion Elite running Win 7. It has 4 USB 2.0 sockets (2 front + 2 rear) along with an inbuilt multi card reader and a DVD-RW on board.

The USB hub I had (and have now replaced) is the only USB socket being used and I need to run a printer and 2 HDDS. Occasionally I Install a vinyl deck and a webcam but these are only connected as and when.

I have tried a soft and a full reboot
