Speeding points - how long before insurance companies ignore them?

A few years back I was fined, and received 3 points on my licence, after driving at 36mph in a 30mph zone.

Can anyone tell me, when applying for car insurance, what do insurance companies ask regarding the time elapsed since the offence occurred?

Do they ask if you've had points on your licence within the past 3 years, or is it 4, or maybe even 5 years?

I thought after 3 years most insurance companies didn't need to know about speeding points on a licence, but I would welcome your views - thank you.

just a wee thought - if you get the points removed keep a note of the dates of the conviction, fine or ban and conviction codes until the 5 years is up, in case insurance asks for this - it saves u time!

Wiltsman, I think it is 5 yrs they go back to when asking for details.
If the automatic three points for a single speeding offence is all you have, then it makes virtually no difference to your insurance premiums anyway (unless you are under 25).
Got my renewal in front of me, goes back 5 yrs
speeding convictions stay on your licence for 4 years, but they can be removed after that period for around £25. Insurers will ask for any driving convictions for the last 5 years and also any claims. Some insurers will ask for non-driving convictions that are not spent under the rehabilitation of offenders act!
