I had a phone call today supposedly from the Government, wanting to make an appointment to call round to talk about the new green living scheme. Apparently every household is to be assessed for their energy greenness. I asked how would I know if this is genuine and he gave me a website address which has not been recognised. He is going to call back. Does anyone know if this is genuine, please?

Sounds like an unsolicited sales call to me
Had a similar call late last week, told him no thanks (well somethig like that) as he was unable to answer questions I asked, it's a selling start, they come and try to insulate the loft , solar panels, wall insulation etc etc, they also state that a government grant is available, when questioned on the sum available they were unable to answer,(if any amount at all) so my advice just say "no thanks"
>>>supposedly from the Government,

It pays to be VERY VERY suspicious if anyone says something like this, they are almost certainly selling something.

I have had a few people knock on my door with "yellow jackets" on and a clipboard saying they are doing "energy assessments" (or words to that effect). They often open with "I am not selling anything".

They ARE selling this, as KJN says, solar panels, cavity wall insulation etc.

You MUST be less trusting.
>>>>He is going to call back.

Why?

You should have been firm with him from the start and say you never buy ANYTHING from a total stranger phoning you up out the blue.

NEVER trust ANYONE who phones you up unless you know them, or have asked them to phone.

Be less trusting and you wont get scammed.

Thanks very much everyone. I'm sure you are right and I won't do anything about it. At least I didn't agree to make an appointment! Feel happier now.
Some slithey tove from an industrial estate in Burnley tried to pull this one recently, opening the cold call with 'your government advisor' - I grilled as to details and he denied that he had said or implied any link to the government. They are liars and shysters and if they had goods or business practices that were any use then they would set up real shops and advertise.
Harumph!
For Heaven's sake get in touch with your Council's Trading Standards immediately and grass them up. You might be OK but a less aware person might suffer. Any threats then get the cops involved.
