/// There was a call for sharia law to be imposed over Britain. Police made two arrests. ///

Yes only two arrests yet in November 2011 156 EDL supporters were arrested, who may (and I repeat 'MAY') have planned to target Occupy London

http://www.guardian.c...-edl-supporters-peace

And an EDL march banned by the Home Secretary, and 60 arrests made in Sept 2011.

/// Home Secretary Theresa May had imposed a ban on marching in Newham, Tower Hamlets, Waltham Forest, Islington, Hackney and the City of London. ///

/// The activists were supposedly prevented from chanting or waving their flags while walking as that would constitute a
march. ///

Sorry trt I didn't see your thread while I was composing mine, but I totally agree with your comments.
The EDL members, fuelled by drink and hatred, presented a real threat of violence. In contrast, those calling for Sharia Law in the UK are asking for pie in the sky. They're harmless dreamers.
Hardly harmless.
Not harmless at all imo, sandy. very dangerous indeed I think.
Far from harmless indeed. I find them very worrying.

/// presented a real threat of violence ///.

And you don't think that these religious fanatics present a much more threat of violence Sandy?

Take a look at what is happening across most of the Muslim World.

I doubt the EDL loonies have burned embassies and called for fatwahs on people they don't agree with and, if they did, they would be singularly incapable of carrying out their threats.

Reference the recent film about Muslims, I remember the furore over The Life of Brian (hard to believe these days, but I'm older (and love the film) and remember it well). There were protests outside cinemas as many Christians saw it was mocking Christianity, but I don't recall buildings being burned or ambassadors dying.
^^ The same happened with Jerry Springer The Opera - but again, no buildings destroyed and no one murdered.
not harmless, are you kidding. They are killing each other in many parts of the world, tribe on tribe, who is to stop it, and any involvement we have in all of these backward countries should cease as soon as possible.
London doesn't need this, if these idiots feels so strongly don't they go and fight for Al Qaeda, or the Taliban, better that than stay here and burn flags and chant death threats.
Thanks to our active involvement in these countries and tied firmly to American knickers Britain has become a very unstable place to live. At least the US has the Pacific on one side and the Atlantic on the other to deter aggressers... we have only 21 miles of the English Channel to protect our borders which are like sieves.
pdq1 some are already here, the channel won't matter a damn.
Sharia law, I believe it's coming, and this will, in our lifetime, become a Muslim country, that is, unless our lilly livered leaders get a grip and stop cow towing to them.
Lonnie, not in mine i would suspect, and not anyone who has any sense.
Englandistan ?
em10,

Your absolutely right about sense, but successive goverments seem to have taken leave of theirs, at least where this issue is concerned.

How very fitting for Battle of Britain weekend.

We thankfully managed it then, and against the might of the German Luftwaffe.
ah AOG, there is a major difference, we knew who our enemies were, and now we don't, until it's too late.
