Sleep - why is it so hard at times?

I've already been awake for over 36 hours. I couldn't sleep last night partly because of the heat but mainly because I had stomach pains that wouldn't go and made it hard to get comfy.

I am really ready for a sleep but when I went up and tried earlier I was restless. So I came down to watch something on my digi, and that I ended up rewinding a few times because I of dozing off and missing bits.

So I went up again and I just can't! why, it's so annoying. I am literally dead on my feet here, not fit to do anything even typing this out (taken ages correcting spelling) and yet I can't just drop off.

I know, the heat & humidity isn't helping. If I haven't been travelling (I can sleep on planes easy as anything - free brandy in business class probably helps) then my sleep is easier and better quality if it follows a run, bike ride or a good book.
I have suffered insomnia for many years. Never drink coffee or tea after 4pm. They both contain caffeine, which stays in the system for hours. You could try eating a turkey and lettuce sandwich, with a glass of warm milk, all of which are soporific. I have tried many things over the years, to no avail. I sometimes find that I can nap for an hour in the late afternoon, when my Dad is asleep, but only if I read for about an hour first. It's very difficult I know and my suggestions will probably be of no use, but it's worth a try.
You have my sympathy, my sleep is usually between 4 and 7.
I go through phases!! I try decaf tea now instead, try not to eat anything caffiene containing, lavender On my pillow, warm baths...

And.....as a one off....if ive been really bad for nights.... A dose of night nurse!!!!!!

Never more than one night in a row or frequently as its known to be addictive x
if you are dozing in front of the TV then doze. I find when i am having sleep trouble, then the best thing to do is just let myself sleep where I can (not driving obviously ha ha)
This hot humid weather is making very difficult to sleep. Putting pressure on yourself to 'go to bed' and sleep can just make it worse, sometimes as woofgang says it's good just to doze or have a nap when you can.
