How about a quick one liner from the Ed to the email address of the OP , when a complete thread is taken off , especially when it is not obvious why a thread is removed.

I don't consider that it would take up a lot of time as I suspect that removing threads are not common .

If you think the problem was the answers rather than your question I'm not sure why you are so concerned about this, but one thing you could do is try posting the question again and hopefully the responses will not cause problems.
If we can automate it, then yes, we'll certainly consider it.
I thought it was pretty obvious why that one was removed. It was having a dig at another ABer. How would you like it if someone started a thread devoted to "Moaning by Bazile"?
(PS feel free to report my last post if you like, it doesn't actually sound any nicer than yours and there's no reason for it to hang around on the site either.)

Thanks Ed

jno - come come now , if it was interpreted as a ' dig ' , it was an obviously lighthearted dig and was in no way malicious or nasty .

I was under the impression that we are all adults on this site and can cope with a bit of friendly banter .

( oh and no - i'm not going to report your post ; and beleive it or not the removed thread does not cause me any sleepless nights - i was just curious to know why it was removed )
There is this notion that we could tell you what a question was reported for - this wouldn't let you know the exact reason, and when a user mod or I remove something based on our own judgement there wouldn't be any reason given.

Just an idea to think about.
ed, whilst you are hovering, which password should be filled in when reportig a post? t's a new concept to me to have to put one in before submitting a report.
Hi Dot,

It should be your own password - the one you use to log into the site with. We got many complaints that no one could read the CAPTCHA image lettering on the old system.
.. and I am grateful for that, Ed - captchas are becoming more and more difficult to decipher.
I think this is a good idea. In the past couple of days I have had a thread removed. It was a silly, nonsense thread but I don't know why it was removed.
Ed, given that you have user mods who can remove threads, would that mean they have to fill in another form to contact you to tell you why - or would you just use the info on the report form?
"and when a user mod or I remove something based on our own judgement there wouldn't be any reason given."

Or you'd get an email with a custard recipe.
We'd just give the reason (not the message) to the person who has had their content removed. Each element on the site has an id, so we can look up which reports go with with user mod actions.
... blancmange in the face, chuck?
I have yet to get a custard recipe :)
^^ oops Ed, you got in the way <<pfft>>
If the User Mods are playing with food again, then I'm off - Look what happened last time!!

Nothing new in the suggestion.....I have kept on about this sort of thing for a few years. Perhaps my answer here will now be removed.
