Why would you? You leave yourself open to jealous abuse from all kinds of nut cases, not to mention begging letters. Also what about the bullying at school and the kidnap threat of their young children? At least if you kept it quiet you would have time to think things through and probably move before word did get out.
Are they put under pressure by Camalot to go public?

Nothing can be kept secret for long. If you are known to buy tubs of Stork and suddenly switch to Lurpak, heads will nod and tongues will wag.
Have to agree with em, how could you prevent family and their friends being told when they have been given money from the winners...it really would get out. I don't think you could rely on anyone further from immediate family knowing and what a burden you place on others in the know. I wouldn't like to go public though...can imagine the fall out, but at least like the couple who won the 161 million, I would be giving millions away to charity too.
Might have to get a super injunction against the world at large, and pursue anyone who revealed, or offered reward for revealing, my identity! And if you do say to someone 'Can you keep a secrete?' it's obvious that you can't.

But, if it does get revealed by one or more, that's surely better than telling the world on TV and in all the papers. A friend used to tell his daughter that, if the Revenue or anyone came asking where she got her diamonds or other expensive things from, 'Say you have a rich, married, loverl' Not sure that that would work for me.
The easy answer would be to keep it secret for a few weeks, then lie, saying you'd won, say, £1.5million on a different week's lottery. That way, when you bought your new big house with your winnings, no-one would be the wiser...unless of course, you went and bought Blenheim Palace.
Blenheim Palace, that would take the whole lot and some to purchase, even if it ever was up for sale.
wouldn't even tell the wife
meanie ^^
they probably didn't think it through. They are likely to be badgered by everyone now, not to mention the press digging around looking for a story.
No way I'd go public.
Their family is now in danger from every nutcase in Europe..Must be put under a lot of pressure to do the media stuff.
It's a huge amount of money,I'd give most of it away.

Or buy Lionel Messi for West Brom..That would shift £100 million of it :)
>>>No way I'd go public.

Pray tell us how you would avoid it?
I'd stick it in a bank and move abroad.
I agree with Nox it's an obscene amount of money.
Quite easily VHG..By not telling anybody!
I'd hate to go public but agree that its inevitable. Therefore it would be better to go about it in a controlled manner with a team of PR people around you rather than wait for the press and media to start harassing you and your family on the doorstep. Which they would do within a couple of days of the win anyway.
think I would collect my parents and go off somewhere for a week or two to think about it all...would be nice to be able to help folks in need with all that dosh..and to repay everyone that had been kind to me in the past..
