Wendilla I tried to give my children the protection and independence they needed. It's so hard! When my eldest set off travelling last June - on her own - I felt just the same and she's 28. Been gone over a year now, and I miss her like anything but happy and proud that she's done it.
Time to go and get the day sorted out.

Have a happy day everyone. xxxxx
Have a good 'un Boaty xx

Sheena, you're right, it's difficult to get the balance right. Is your daughter staying in one country or still travelling?
She's currently in Melbourne Alba, having travelled around SE Asia first, and 2 days after arriving, in hospital having her appendix out! probably heading back to Blighty early next year but fitting in some more travelling on the way.
The poor soul, appendix out and far from mum. Poor you too, you must have been frantic.
I was Alba and you're right about the Mum hug too! Luckily she has a uni friend who now lives out there with her BF and his Mum was brilliant for her
Have a good day everyone, must go and make a few lists - always makes me feel organised!
At least that was hopefully some comfort to you both. I so glad she wasn't isolated and on her own, that does not bear thinking about.
You wait until she comes back and regales you with her adventures!!
Hope your day is kind to you xxx
My Goddaughter did that for her gap year - with a female friend - Brazil, Uruguay, Argentina, Chile, Peru, Galapagos Islands, NZ, Oz, USA back. It was when she cleared Peru we all breathed a sigh of relief. As an emergency she had a duplicate of my Amex (Dad having agreed to settle it), the logic being she would use mine for that and not for cheapo Buenos Aries Fendi handbags on Dad's card.

Since then she loves to travel, Cambodia and Laos her favourites - but she doesn't half do it in style - has all these friends who Dads are so loaded, they fly them out Business - then she/they goes to work on fluttering her eye lids and fly upfront! Different generation, she has had a bf working in Dubai and doesnt think twice about flying out there for a long w/end - mind you she is a lawyer in the City now, so can afford it.
The world has really opened up for the young 'uns these days. Plus they have the confidence too.
true
Yes Alba that is right and we too have to have the confidence to let them go but it is no easy as you all have said.
I think the only thing to do is to have confidence in their upbringing, but that doesn't lessen the concern in any way.
good morning from a sunny Edinburgh..going into town today..dreading the festival crowds though !
