Problem concerning burning a playlist to disc. Windows Vista OS

Once a playlist has been named and tracks added I appear to be unable to get iTunes to burn the playlist to disc.

This is after clicking on file and from the drop down box selecting "Burn Playlist to disc" a window opens asking me to check from a choice of Audio file and two other alternatives.

It also asks for the time gap between tracks.

Once I have selected Audio Disc and the no-second gap between tracks and inserted a blank CD-R into the CD drive, the programme does not respond as it does on other computers but simply ejects the blank disc

Is there something simple that I am missing here?

Have you selected too many tracks to fit on one disc?

No, the combined track times is well under 75 mins.
just ejecting does sound like too big, try with just one song.
also you can burn ok in other programs, you dont for example have a CD +R recorder and using _R disks?
tried other brands of disk. etc
