I an not very good at selecting colours and would appreciate some advice. I am about to redecorate my entrance hall which is fitted with a plain "dusty rose" coloured carpet. The hall table is mahogany. From what areas of the colour card (yellows/blues/greens/reds etc) could I select a compatable vinyl for the walls. All woodwork is to be brilliant white gloss. Any advice given will be appreciated.

It really does depend on what you like, and how light the hallway is. The colour wheel might help you, I'll try to find it.
Cream...or cream tones.
personally I'd go for a pale green or an "old lace" white shade, but colours are just that - personal.

A warm pearl grey with antique white gloss rather than brilliant white maybe highlight shades from the hot pink palette a vase on the table and pictures for the wall. with only one instance of mahogany try to put some elsewhere picture frames for example or a mahogany framed mirror
Very pale green was my first thought. Pink or yellow would make it all to reddish, blue would clash with the carpet, most secondary colours would be horrible. One of the off-whites from Farrow and Ball or similar should be acceptable.
