I just knew Danny Boyle wouldn't let us down, that was just simply stunning, I hope even the ABAO mob will acknowledge that was the best ever openning ceremony to the Olympics. Ok Whinners do your worst, I'm ready....

I thought it was brilliant, even the David Beckham bit. I'm not one who usually likes opening ceremonies but I was quite impressed by it well done to him (D. Boyle)

Rowan Atkinson had me in tears of laughter when he started playing 'chariots of fire' (that fella can play)

no eyethenkyoo I've seen them all since 1968 and this knocked spots off the lot.
One more point in our favour etk, this is the first olympics where women have represented every country.
my favourite bit was the OCD sufferer flamboyantly washing his hands,

lost on me.....

the chimneys and cauldron were clever though
The 1948 opening ceremony must have been a sight to behold with the competitors arriving by bus with their lunches carried in a 'snap box'.
Don't think many people watched it sandy as there were no televisions in the homes then.
In truth I thought it was just weird- quite well done but just like a massive dance routine by the kids from Fame, and like Ratter I watched the first hour or so and nearly died of boredom ( The Queen was pretty cool and funny though). I have watched the end bit since and as said before it certainly improved. I don't think it was the best thing ever, neither was it the worst, it was just very typically English and weird but not necessarily in a bad way.
