How local is your local BBC news station?

Living as I do along the south coast of the British Isles - in East Sussex to be precise - I have the pleasure of being within the BBC South East region as regards the 'local news' area.

This is supposedly covering Kent, East and West Sussex as regards area.

My complaint is that as far as I can tell the local news for the BBC is 80% plus happening in Kent , 10% national news with the odd nod to anything anywhere else.

As an example the 13:30 bulletin today was from the Olympic torch relay which started in Hastings - so brief shot of it there. Straight to Hythe (Kent) where the torch had already passed through 'seconds earlier' and then telling us where it will be for the 18:30 bulletin - which will be followed by a 30-minute ' Torch Relay' special for the arrival in Dover. Return to Hythe where they interview a few school children - one of whom was going to 'explode with excitement'. Back to the studio. for a couple of other stories - back to Hythe where everybody had already left the scene.

Come on BBC there must be better news stories than this - and definitely more from outside Kent.

I used to watch every day & said exactly the same, puternut!

I'm in Lewes & barring the major trials at the County Court & the occasional "local (un)interest" story, the news is, as you say, almost all from Kent.

I wonder if it's true that "no news is good news"?
I live on the island of Ibiza and my local BBC station is West Midlands, its the only one I can get!
Lie-in King, Lewes used to be where I hung out at 18yrs old, no idea why but me and my mate found a lovely little cafe and used to haunt it for coffee! Was terrified of the firework procession (still am!!)
Our local radio station is fine but in terms of our TV region we are on the frontier. We get lots of stories about crimes in places far from us which have no interest. I suppose its cost. A TV studio has to cover a large area.
Puternut, LiK - this is so strange - we're in Kent, and we get fed up that most of our local news is West of Hastings. the high level of cover this week is due to the Torch - but usually we find that our "local" news even includes items about Oxford. We just can't win, can we!
Here in East Anglia someone often flicks a wrong switch and we get the SE "local" news, can be very confusing.
I am in West Sussex. Only seem to get news of Bournemouth.
I get BBC Wales, and have to say that we get just the news in Wales, it's fine!...........
Can you blow up the cathedral at Chichester, puternut, and then we ABers can put your theory to the test?

Thanks in advance.
Try living in Scotland. Everything from Muckle Flugga to the Mull of Galloway includingGlasgow & Edinburgh (two of the UK's major cities).
Welshlibran, we call the BBC Welsh news, South Wales news, and give a little yippee if they mention North Wales. Actually, they did tonight!
DT Chichester is in West Sussex. How dare you want to blow up my cathedral!
Im in the North West and our local news, both BBC & ITV is local and pretty good although that means anything as far north as the Lakes, West into North Wales, South as far as Crewe and over to the border of West Yorkshire.
I didn't say I wanted it blown up, daisy!
What did you mean DT?

boxtops - I think you are refering to Meridian on ITV which does seem to have a really big area to cover.

I am 'moaning' about the BBC which promotes the South East as Kent, Sussex and Surrey but the first of the three getting seems to get more than a third of the coverage
