I know this is probably not possible but I have made some chutney for a WI competition and have noticed an air bubble in the only jar i was going to enter [the 1lb size], all the rest are too small. An air bubble is a big no no, is there anything I can do. If I repot [also very naughty] will that be noticanle? I am very competitive but also don't want to cheat. Thanks for any tips guys.

why is it cheating to repot it, before you enter it?
i have no clue as to how to help you, sorry.
however, i'd like to say good luck in the competition.
You might try warming the jar (stand in warm water and gradually add more hot, don't plunge it in hot water) which might melt the chutney a bit and expand the air so it travels up the jar to the top. Failing that, repot, again heat the chutney before repotting into a clean sterilised pot....not sure why this is cheating?
There is no competition requirement for the jar to be sealed. With jam, yes, but chutney, no. The vinegar is sufficient to keep the chutney good for many years. The lid is only to stop it drying out, not to stop it going bad, as might be the case with jam. Best to use a plastic lid - metal will corrode quickly, and you may be marked down if you use metal without a sheet of polythene under the lid, if metal. Anyway, chutney should be potted up cold, so no seal normally forms. I have won chutney competitions at local Horticiltural shows, but nobody has ever expected the jar to form a seal. In fact, one winning entry was only potted up on the day. Do not use wax circles, or you will be marked down. The chutney should be at least a month old, preferably a year old, as it only develops its full flavour after quite some time. My latest chutney is now over 2 years old, and, if I say it myself, the flavour is magnificent.
atalanta, the OP is about bubbles in the chutney, not sealing it .....
Just open the jar and put a knife in where the bubble is and draw it out gently. Reseal. Job done!
