There were a couple of answers i couldn't get in the above so eagerly looked at today's paper for the solutions. The answers given bear no relation to Friday's quiz - maybe they are for tomorrow's paper - so does anyone remember the following answers please?

1d. Best for every Roman - there is a picture with it which starts off with a sum + mm... Then there's something that looks like a nail/screw/pipe/bone and mm...again. It's 6/5 letters and I imagine the first word is 'summer'.
14a. Three-way novel solution - 3 letters. Novel could be new and maybe three-way is expressed by North, East West? Where does solution fit in?

Think 1d was Summa bonum
novel = new (North, East West)
Sorry N,E,W is the 'solution'
