Hi All

I apologise if this has been asked before.

We think my friend has had her email account hacked. I thought i had some odd emails from her a few days ago and I asked her but she knew nothing about them.

My question is, if I received emails from her hacked account, should I be worried that my email account is now at risk from those who hacked my friends email???

As a precaution, Im changing my password, but is there anything else I can do to prevent the same happening to me?
Many thanks, any advice appreciated

All you can do is change your password.

Also make sure your EMAIL password is not the same as any password you use to register for WEB SITES (if the web site is hacked and your email / password combination is stolen then if the passwords are different they cant log on to your email system).

I think this is how most emails are hacked. People use the same email / password combination to log on to web sites as they use to log on to their email system.

Also tell your friend to do the same, set a different password on their email system than they use to register for web sites.

Many Thanks VHG.

Password changed to a strong password and one i havent used anywhere else. Im going to need a strong memory to remember all my passwords, as i use quite a few different ones. Going to sit down later and change as many as possible, and take what has happened to my friend as a reminder that being online isnt as safe as you presume it is.
NO. you do not need to worry about that once you didn't click any links sent from her hacked email or you didn't download any files sent from her hacked email.
But if you have click the link or try to open a file, you should worry that your computer is infected with virus.
Actually, hackers use email to spread virus, trojan, worms instead of hacking more email address.
