Hi all,
I'd like to go on the new cable car next week as part of my birthday celebrations (hopefully the queues won't be too crazy!). Does anyone know where it actually is?! i.e. which train/tube station it's near on either side.
Thanks in advance!
GL.

firstly. . happy birthday for next week.

i was not aware there was a cable-car on the thames.
i'll have to find out about it
From wikipedia.

"Royal Docks

The eastern end of the cable car line will be at the Royal Docks, home to the ExCeL Centre, which is to host a number of Olympic martial arts and weightlifting events. The closest interchange to the Docklands Light Railway will be at Royal Victoria DLR station.
Greenwich Peninsula

The western end of the cable car line will be within walking distance of the O2, the planned venue of artistic gymnastics and basketball events of the 2012 Summer Olympics. The closest interchange with the London Underground will be at North Greenwich station. The nearest London River Services will be at North Greenwich Pier."

Hello GL

Have a look at this link... http://www.tfl.gov.uk...andschemes/15959.aspx
Hope it helps

SJJ
had a look.

wow.

i love that kind of thing.
i think i'll make plans to go down and have a ride.
It opens on 28th June I think and it'll go from the O2 over the river to the Excel Centre. Takes 5 minutes and costs about £4. OR for a round trip £6 - £7.

O2 is close to the North Greenwich DLR stop or for a birthday treat, take a boat trip to the O2 .

More info here:

Mayor Boris Johnson said today that the Emirates Air Line, between Greenwich and the Royal Docks, will open at midday on June 28. There had been fears the ambitious £45 million project would not be finished before the Games opening ceremony on July 27.

A single trip using pay-as-you-go Oyster will cost £3.20 and a cash fare will be £4.30.

Passengers will also be able to make a non-stop round trip on the cable car, with views of the City, Canary Wharf and the Thames Barrier, for £6.40 using Oyster. And a “frequent flyer” pass will allow 10 single journeys for £16. London Assembly members said the high fares were “surprising”.

The Air Line links the O2 Arena in Greenwich with the ExCel exhibition centre at Royal Docks. There have been suggestions it will be used to ferry Olympic competitors across the Thames to the O2, which is hosting gymnastics and basketball.

Thirty-four cable cars, carrying 2,500 passengers an hour, will make the 1.1km river crossing. The gondolas, about 160 feet above the river, will run every 30 seconds and the journey will take five minutes.

Dubai-based airline Emirates is sponsoring the cable car for 10 years at a cost of £36 million. Mr Johnson said: “On June 28 this spectacular addition to London’s skyline will provide a much-needed new river crossing.

Thanks, ChuckFickens (now, why couldn't I find that?!). The Jubilee Line then - how appropriate! :D
Yay, can't wait!

Thanks SJJ, that map's really helpful.
Wow, Maidup, thank you - I had no idea I could just take a round trip! I thought I'd have to make separate journeys to and from. We have Oyster cards, so that'll save us a bundle.
Excelsior - it does look like fun, doesn't it? Might see you there, haha! :D
Thanks again, all!
GL
