I got home yesterday from a holiday and was really tired and looking forward to sleeping in my own bed when I was woken by a phone call from e-bay at 1 am this morning. Why would they telephone anybody at that time especially if you have never bought or sold on e-bay, I have looked at the site occasionally but thats all.

what did they say? that might give you an idea as to why they called!
Are you sure it was who they claimed it was ? Sounds like an attempted international scam to me.

It was a recorded message that said "This is a message from e-bay"and I didn't wait to hear any more, Just put the phone down and tried to go back to sleep.
American evening/night time; perhaps the call originated there
I also received a phone call at 1am Sun/Mon morning. It was my drunken daughter testing her phone grrr!
I have used Ebay for several years and not once have they phoned me. I would go with the view that it was some sort of scam.
Ive been on Ebay for years and have never received a call. Think the only one I have heard they do now is if you are trying to verify a new bank account and online it says do you want a call now or in 5 mins and you have to choose which one. then you get an automated call.
if you have never registered on ebay, how would they have your number? SCAM!!!!
Scam!!
This is beginning to sound like a Monty Python sketch.

Scam, Scam, Scam, Scam, Scam, Scam, baked beans, Scam, Scam, Scam and Scam.
