We will be moving shortly and at this present time we are connected to the internet by Vigin cable. Where we are going there isn't a cable supply and was wondering if we can use a dongle or will we have to use WiFi (not sure how either work) our pc is not a laptop it's a Dell E520 with a screen and seperate keyboard,so was wondering what the best thing to do,and do we have to have a telephone connected to it

If you have a telephone line it is best to get your broadband through any of the ISPs that service your area, such as BT, or Talk Talk.
I don't know if your pc is wifi enabled. If it is you will be able to connect to your home wifi wirelessly via the router which may be supplied by your ISP.
If it isn't wifi enabled you can buy a very small wifi adapter that plugs in to your usb port, or connect it by cable.

If you don't want to do that you can try a broadband dongle, it all depends what your 3G reception is like.

The first option is the fastest and most reliable (in most cases).

thanks hc4361 will make a note of your suggestions
Depends how much internet usage you require, dongle can be expensive. I have a mobile phone contract that gives me all my internet, phone calls, texts in one package. I do not have a landline to pay for or a broadband service and when i go away, my broadband comes with me as it is all with the mobile phone.
... and (to add to what celtic has said) if you have the right android smartphone (eg a samsung galaxy) you will be able to set it up as a wifi hotspot and connect your PC through that - using the same data allowance as the phone.
