Hubby and I have been invited to a wedding in July and I am a bit worried about the expense of it. The invitation states that they are getting married at 1-30 pm and the wedding breakfast is at 3-30pm. Then at 7-30pm, they are having a Ball and the dress code is black tie and gowns. Well I don't know if that means that I will need an outfit for the wedding and then a ball gown for evening. Hubby will have to rent an evening suit and I don't know if I would have to have an outfit for the wedding and then a gown for the evening ball. If so, it is going to be soooo expensive just for 1 afternoon. Anyone any suggestions please?

can you not ask the bride what the protocol is here? whether you need two outfits for the day. also if this is expected where is everyone going to get changed?

what about wearing a pretty dress with a suit jacket over it, wear your hair down and no jewelry in the day and in the night - jacket off, hair up, fancy jewellry, maybe a shawl to cover the arms?

that way its only one outfit with accessories?
Your hubby can be lucky with perhaps just a change of tie if need be, but you will need two outfits i'm afraid! Maybe you could hire a ballgown? Look inthe phonebook under costume hire. Or if you know somebody who dressmakes, go to somewhere like here and buy yards of satin and have a ballgown made cheaply

http://www.cheapfabrics.co.uk/thestore/product _info.php/pName/crepeback-satin-4

Have a good browse at that site, they are very helpful if you phone them up too, they'll send you swatches of fabric

Or try and utilise what you've got in your wardrobe for the daytime, perhaps just buy a new hat?

If either of these ideas fail you, then you can always pretend that you can either go to the afternoon only or the evening venue only , invent a holiday or meeting somebody from the airport etc,. Good luck

Many thanks MiniM. That is a great idea.
I'd check, but I think the default is no changing for guests, they shouldn't be expected to.
Just go to a hire shop for both of
you ..suit and posh frock ..do what
you can afford ...

I you would have to be have two dresses for wedding then buying good ball gown would be really very expensive...try to get it on rent.
and dress for afternoon party you can buy or can wear something from your own wardrobe. I think knee length dress would be fine for afternoon wedding party
