Mr Benyon decided yesterday (30th) due to public support not to go ahead with the propes report and will rethink with all parties involved. YAY!!!!
OK seadogg, I managed to google some information. Perhaps some natural selection will make the pheasants more wily and therefore better sport. Of course they could just be shot in cages which would be much more efficient.
Bit over excited - should read ' proposed report'
Pheasants - chickens with a good fancy dress costume - more killed by motorists than buzzards or shotguns I believe.

Good result though - this government is now making so many U Turns it will disappear up its own behind soon ...
How happy was I last night!!! I`ve been speaking to a lovely chap from RSPB who tells me they are hoping to train more wardens to protect birds of prey. For this reason I upped my subscription and I am sure they would be grateful for any help to protect these magnificent birds.

Apologies for my haste jom. Received a call I had to answer before going into detail. The proposed plan to shoot out the nests of a protected species incensed the members of our local birding group and a lot of other people according to my Independent this morning. This administration is too keen on shooting from the hip (vide the previous plan to flog off our state forests).

Nothing against shooting per se except when they want to rearrange the natural order to do it.

On our walk this morning I counted 4 pheasants noshing happily on the farmers crop and there is no shooting estate for miles.
Live to fly another day lovely buzzards .....
